Everyone remembers their first piece. That moment you held real gold or silver in your hand for the first time and thought... yeah, I get it now. Mine was a 2019 full Sovereign. My dad gave me one for my 18th birthday and I've been hooked ever since. Still got it, will never sell it. That one coin started a collection that's now worth more than my car. What was yours? Was it a gift? Did you buy it yourself? Did you even know what you were buying at the time? Bonus points if you've still got it in your stack!

Half Sovereign from a jeweller in Birmingham, 2018. Had absolutely no idea what I was doing - just knew I wanted to own some gold. Paid way over the odds but I still have it and it's worth double what I paid now, so who's laughing.
A 1oz silver Britannia off eBay in 2020 during the first lockdown. I was bored, started watching YouTube videos about precious metals at 2am, and before I knew it I'd ordered one. That one coin turned into 200+ oz of silver and a small gold stack. Dangerous hobby.
My nan gave me a 1958 Sovereign when I turned 21. Didn't think much of it at the time but it sat in a drawer for years until I looked up the price one day and nearly choked on my tea. That was the moment I thought "I should probably buy more of these."
Absolutely! That feeling of holding it for the first time is something else. Mine was a 1oz Silver Britannia back in 2010, bought with my first proper bonus. Still have it, tarnished but cherished. Definitely solidified my commitment to stacking after that.
cracking thread! Mine was a 1oz Silver Britannia from Chard. That satisfying weight and clink in my hand, especially at an accessible price, instantly converted me. Been a silver bug ever since. That's the real stacking value!
Remember that feeling well. My first was a dinky 1/10oz Britannia, bought with a tenner I'd saved from washing cars. Held it, looked at the price, and thought, 'Right, this is proper money, better than a fiver down the pub.' Now I've got enough bits and bobs to sink a small dinghy.
Flipping through the forums, I saw this and remembered my first buy – a 1oz silver Britannia last year. The weight was so surprising! I'm still just stacking silver, mainly 1oz coins. How quickly did you lot branch out into gold, or bigger bars once you started?
Holding that first bit of metal is indeed unforgettable! Mine was a 1/10th Gold Britannia, bought with my first proper bonus. Completely get the sentimental value, but saying you'll *never* sell it? Sometimes life throws curveballs, or you just fancy upgrading. It's still a beautiful piece, though!
